Facilities Plant Engineer - South Portland, ME

Diodes Incorporated (Diodes) is seeking a Facilities Plant Engineer to work in the South Portland, Maine facility. This role is responsible for the uninterruptible operations of all mechanical and electrical systems associated with supporting a semiconductor manufacturing facility. The work schedule is an overnight 12-hour shift, 7pm -7am, with a 2/2/3 rotating schedule working every other weekend and the holidays that fall on the schedule. Candidate must be flexible when requested to work outside of normal schedule to cover vacations and call outs.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities: 

Within 30 days a successful candidate will be introduced to:

  • Clean-room classifications and environmental control requirements
  • Building Management System (Honeywell EBI)
  • Preventative maintenance and work request systems
  • Environmental abatement systems operations (VOC incinerator, wet scrubbers, acid wastewater neutralization system)
  • Key facility systems operations (centrifugal chillers, fire-tube boilers, cooling water, supply & exhaust fans)

 

At the end of 90 days the candidate will:

  • Be able to perform all testing of manufacturing environmental controls (particles, velocity, bacteria, temperature, and humidity)
  • Have an understanding of our building management system and be able to make adjustments as required as well as access historical operational data
  • Begin performing operational inspection rounds under the guidance of an experienced peer

 

In the first 6 months the candidate will:

  • Be cross-trained in ultra-pure de-ionized water plant operations
  • Be proficient with all Facilities department preventive maintenance activities
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and identify system modifications as needed
  • Participate and support continuous commissioning/improvement projects
  • Have completed all certifications within assigned job training plan

 

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Associate of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Technology with at least 5 years of directly related experience or Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Marine Engineering Operations / Technology preferred)
  • Possess systemic knowledge of the following systems: low-pressure steam boilers, air compressors, low vacuum, chilled water plant, process and tempered cooling water packages, make-up and recirculation air handlers, acid wastewater neutralization (AWN) system, acid / caustic wet scrubbers, volatile organic compound (VOC) incinerator, emergency generators, fire alarm, and solvent and acid waste collection systems  
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and quality systems
  • Comfortable wearing the garments required for entry into the production cleanroom
  • Comfortable wearing personal protective equipment – full face respirator, acid/solvent gloves, aprons, gauntlets, safety glasses, steel toed boots, hearing protection, etc.
  • Able to stand, walk, and work on feet for extended periods of time
  • Pass medical evaluation/physical for full face respirator certification
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Able to climb ladders
  • Able to work in hot environments (boiler room)
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions
  • Willingness and discipline to follow procedures and specifications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Work independently in dynamic team environment.
  • Operate forklift
