MOSFETs to give that home theater sound

February 2002

MOSFETs to give that home theater sound Zetex has launched a series of four N and P-channel MOSFETs providing all the performance demanded by Class D audio systems.

The 35V breakdown voltage of the parts ensures they readily deliver up to 100W to a 4Ω speaker.

Well suited to 5.1 home theater systems, the ZXM64N035 and ZXM64P035 devices are offered in the SOT223 package for 50W music channels and in the TO220 format, for example to meet the higher power needs of the sub-woofer (up to 100W).

Thanks to the fast recovery time of an integral body diode, EMI spikes are curtailed by the MOSFETs and distortion further reduced in Class D audio amplifiers. The need for external Schottky devices is also removed.

Combining the low on-resistance and fast switching capability of the Zetex Planar MOSFET process, the new parts provide a high efficiency output stage for the company's popular ZXCD1000 Class D audio controller IC. The compatibility of MOSFET gate charge capacitance and controller output means no intermediate gate driver is required.
